INTRODUCTION
The NLFI Spa and Medical Clinic, owned by the Nature and Health
Association of Iceland and located in Hveragerdi, is only a half hour
drive from Reykjavik. The Clinic is a place of choice for all those who are
in need of rehabilitation, regaining their strength or simply in need to rest.
The Clinic has earned a solid reputation, both in Iceland and internationally,
since its foundation in 1955 for personal and

The NLFI Spa and Medical Clinic is the oldest Sanatorium in Iceland and, one of the two most important
rehabilitation clinics in Iceland.
Every year approximately 2,000 patients and other guests enjoy the diverse rehabilitation programs.
Rehabilitation
The Clinic offers specialized rehabilitation programs that provide guests with different types of
treatments and schedules tailored to individual needs. The main goal is to make sure that the stay
at the Clinic and the treatments provided result in maximum health benefits and optimum functional results.
The Clinic does its best to meet the needs of all guests by enhancing their physical as
well as mental well being. During workdays we offer lectures, discussion sessions(in icelandic),
hiking, water gymnastics, back and neck exercises etc. Private consultations (supportive interviews)
are offered to guests who have suffered mental or physical traumas from various reasons.
Policy
Many people feel a need to change their lifestyles in order to promote better health and a longer life.
It´s our policy to encourage our guests to be responsible for their own health through physical exercise,
proper nutrition, and above all, positive thinking.
Our basic philosophy is to build up clients’ health and improve their quality of life and well being.
The clinic’s approach builds self-confidence and individual awareness of the fact that only he or she
is responsible for his/her own health.
History
The Clinic was founded in 1955 by Jónas Kristjánsson, a medical doctor
who introduced new and revolutionary ideas about nutrition, health and health care.
The clinic combines the benefits of modern medical science with health care traditions of the Association.
Employees
The employees (120) will do their best to make your stay as successful an enjoyable as possible.
Doctors, nurses, physio-therapists, psychologists, a nutritionist,
sport instructors, massage therapists and an acupuncturist work together
in interdisciplinary teams to provide a holistic solution for each patient.
Specialties
Mud baths, herbal baths, therapeutic massage and lymphatic drainage massage
are some of our special therapies used in combination with other treatments.
